The Newcastle Jets will begin their off-year training camp in the coming days, as they look to fill key roles ahead of their new season.
The club’s off-field activities, which run until the end of March, will kick off with the official Jets Association Board meeting on March 6 at the Newcastle Cricket Club.
The Jets are in the midst of an off-spring and are preparing for a busy off-seasons as they prepare for their first game of the season, a home match against the Brisbane Broncos on March 14.
The annual meeting will be held at the Cricket Club’s new training ground in the Newcastle Town Centre on the NSW Cricket Association’s new $3 million home ground, which is expected to open next year.
Head coach Mike Mulvey has already named his first squad for next season, with the Jets also expected to make a number of changes to their squad this off-schedule period.
The new Jets Stadium will open in 2019 and will feature the club’s brand new playing surface, which will feature a full stadium pitch and new facilities to accommodate players and staff during the summer months.
The Newcastle Jets are also set to expand their training facilities for 2019, with Mulvey hopeful that the club will be able to attract up to 10,000 players to its training ground for its pre-season training.
The official Jets Club website will be live on Tuesday, March 7 at 8.00am with the first live stream of the Jets off-term training camp to be available on the Jets Club YouTube channel on Tuesday morning.
The website will also be available to watch live in full via live stream on the official channel on the New Zealand Cricket Facebook page.
Players to be involved in the Jets training camp include:Head coach, Mike Mulvy, and assistant coach, Steve Kull, are expected to be on hand at the club, as are other key players such as skipper Cameron Smith, skipper Chris Judd, and batsman Cameron Bancroft.
The main training sessions will be open to the public.
The first training session will take place on Monday, March 9 at 8:00am at the Club’s training ground at The Oval, where Mulvey will be joined by team manager Matt Krakouer, coach Phil Dutton, captain Paul Cummins and assistant captain Brendon McCullum.
Following the training session, Mulvey and the club are expected, along with the rest of the players, to depart for training on Tuesday.
